A Brazilian auction purchase a piece of Eiffel Tower at 80,550 euros

A piece of the original staircase of the Eiffel Tower was sold Monday at an auction in Paris for 80,550 euros to a Brazilian businessman, said the auction house Drouot.

The piece of ladder had been estimated at between 60,000 and 80,000 euros and the purchaser intends to install it at home, "in Europe", Drouot said without giving further details about the identity of the purchaser or the location of your home.

The piece of 3.50 meters from the original spiral staircase of the tower, dated 1889, has 18 steps and weighs about 700 kilos.

The staircase linking from 1889 the second and third floor of the Eiffel Tower was dismantled in 1983 and sold in lots.

A year ago, a piece almost identical to the auction on Monday was sold for 180,000 euros. Another piece will be auctioned by Sotheby's on 26 November in Paris.
